Richmond~A Wonderful place to call home..

Richmond is the capital of Virginia and is situated on the James River approximately 100 miles from Washington, D.C. The City of Richmond is a part of the Richmond region including the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent.
Richmond is rich in history and has many historic sites such as St. John's - its oldest church - and the site of Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech in 1775. Prior to 1780 Williamsburg was Virginia's capital city. Shortly after becoming the capital city it was burned by the British troops. In 1861 Richmond was made the Capital of the Confederacy due to the strategic location of the Tredegar Iron Works.
In addition to historic sites, there are many contemporary attractions such as the Ballet, Symphony & Philharmonic. Only a few miles down the road one can find horse racing at Colonial Downs or NASCAR racing at Richmond International Raceway. The Atlanta Braves farm team - the Richmond Braves - play minor league ball at the Diamond. Richmond also boasts many fine restaurants.

Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies and the Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology.
Outdoor and recreational opportunities are provided by the city's 40 parks, while the James River offers kayaking/canoeing, and tubing. There are also a number of marathons, the Virginia State Fair, the Carytown Watermelon Festival and Christmas activities throughout the year.
